Laurens County Sheriff's deputies and agents with the State Law Enforcement Division are investigating a suspicious device that was found during a community cleanup Saturday morning.

Laurens County Sheriff Ricky Chastain stated that a item with the words "bomb test" written on it was found during the Wattsville community cleanup late Saturday morning. Deputies and other security personnel arrived at the scene and as a precautionary measure, they rerouted traffic and requested explosive technicians to examine the device.

Chastain said that the device has been disabled and agents are taking it to the SLED headquarters for further examination. The community cleanup started at 9 a.m. as residents and county leaders worked to go through neighborhoods and streets to pick up litter and help beautify the community.

7 On Your Side has a crew headed to the scene and will bring you more details as they become available.
