Cape Hatteras, NC -

Officials have canceled some ferry routes between Hatteras and Ocracoke Island due to mechanical problems.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation said Saturday that the 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. runs from the mainland to the island had been canceled, as had the 6:45 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. routes from the island back to Hatteras.

Officials say mechanical issues with one of the ferries are to blame, and crews are working to get things up and running again.

Travelers are encouraged to call each ferry terminal directly with questions about specific routes or schedules. People can also call 800-293-3779 for up-to-date ferry information.
