Deputies Arrest Walhalla Man After Standoff

Posted: Updated:
WALHALLA, S.C. -

Oconee County deputies say they arrested a man who they say barricaded himself inside his home for most of Sunday afternoon and evening.

Deputies say 43 year old Timothy Scott Blackwell of 103 Fairfield Road was taken into custody without incident just before 8:45 pm Sunday.

Investigators say deputies responded to the home near Pickens Highway just before 3 pm Sunday in regards to a domestic call.

Once law enforcement responded, deputies say Blackwell ran back inside the home and barricaded himself inside.

The SWAT team was put on standby just after 3:30 pm Sunday and activated just before 4 pm.

Negotiators talked with Blackwell before he surrendered to deputies.  He was later examined by paramedics from the Oconee Medical Center and they determined he was fine.

Highway 183 was shut down between Fowler Road and Freedom Drive during the standoff, but was reopened after Blackwell was arrested.

Deputies say Blackwell has been charged with second degree Criminal Domestic Violence, but they say more charges may be pending.
