Duke Makes Changes At Keowee-Toxaway

Posted: Updated:
Oconee County, SC -

Oconee County residents are invited to a public information meeting with Duke Energy on Wednesday at 6:00 PM. The meeting is to discuss the Keowee-Toxaway Relicensing Program. The meeting will be held in Council Chambers, Oconee County Administrative Offices, 415 S. Pine Street, Walhalla, SC 29691.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) granted the Keowee-Toxaway Project a 50-year license in 1966. That license will expire in 2016. Now Duke Energy has to relicense and they've recently completed an agreement-in-principle. More than 40 stakeholders representing 22 organizations, agencies and community groups have been working since 2009 to study hydro operations and natural resources in the Keowee-Toxaway Hydroelectric Project.
