ANDERSON, SC -

A local race car driver was arrested and charged with criminal sexual conduct.

According to our news coverage partners at the Anderson Independent-Mail, Ralph Carnes, 54, of Anderson, was charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor under 11 years of age and lewd acts of a child under age 16. The newspaper reports that a judge refused to set bail for Carnes at a hearing Thursday.

The Independent-Mail reports that arrest warrants allege that Carnes committed sexual battery on a victim under the age of 11 between April 2, 2007, and April 2008. A second warrant states he committed lewd acts on a person under the age of 16 between April 2, 2001 and April 2010.

Carnes races late-model stock cars at Anderson Motor Speedway, where he is the reigning track champion and current points leader, the newspaper reports.
