2 years later: Greenville man sees results of clean water campaign

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. -

For his 23rd birthday Josh Morgan asked the community to give him one gift: the opportunity to give clean water to places without it. Two and a half years later, Josh is seeing the results from his campaign.

In 2011 Josh Morgan was inspired to give people clean water for his birthday after seeing Scott Harrison, the founder of ‘Charity: Water' speak at the Catalyst leadership conference in Atlanta. Mogan said "I was moved as he spoke about how his life had been changed by meeting the need of clean water for people that were dying because of the things that they were drinking."

His original goal was to have 20 people give $23 in honor of his birthday. However –the campaign quickly took off.  When his birthday arrived friends and family had given $1,000 to help give people clean water.

Over the past two years the Charity:Water organization has been sending updates to Morgan as well as his supporters. They have been showing the progress and delays of the project, and the Morgan project had many due to government regulations and construction delays.

On Friday, Josh Morgan got the ‘proof' of his project in Ethiopia. Charity:Water sent Morgan and his supporters GPS coordinates, photos, and a google map of the finalized project.

The report says the "Komeshga 25 School" project will harvest rainwater and serve 383 people in Ethiopia. The report adds that "charity: water projects at schools like this one use clean water as a catalyst to improve the overall health of kids and the surrounding community. That means this school project includes not just a water source, but also latrines, hygiene training and a handwashing station."
