WELLFORD, SC -

Firefighters from several departments have been investigating a fire at Leigh Fibers on Syphrit Road in Wellford.

The call came in around 11:45 p.m. Monday.  A 7 On Your Side photographer noticed a lot of smoke billowing from one side of the building.

Startex Assistant Fire Chief Barry Davis said fire was under control as of 3 a.m.

The fire was in the roof covering one department of the warehouse and factory.

One department is about 100 feet long by 75 feet wide.

Davis said the flames started in some bales of material, then it got into the roof.

Mop-up operations are underway.

Officials say the building is made of concrete to help contain any fires that may start from the materials being processed.

Leigh Fibers had two fires within days of each other in June of last year..

Keep checking back for the latest updates as we gather additional information.
