Report: U.S. Adult Smoking Rate Drops To 18 Percent

Posted: Updated:

Federal health officials say fewer adults are smoking.

A survey by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says last year, 18 percent of adults participating in a national health survey described themselves as smokers compared to 19 percent the year before.

And before 2011, the adult smoking rate had been stuck around 20 to 21 percent for several years. Health officials say they don't know why the smoking rate is dropping.
