Former Raleigh teacher accused of killing husband goes to court

RALEIGH, N.C. -

The woman accused of killing her husband and dumping his body near Falls Lake over the weekend made her first court appearance Monday.  Joanna Madonna is charged with murdering her husband, 64-year-old José Perez of Raleigh.

Madonna showed no emotion and appeared dazed as she walked into the Raleigh courtroom.

Friends tell our Raleigh sister station WNCN, she's a happy person and they were not aware of any problems between she and her husband.

Police arrested Madonna after her husband's body was found in a wooded area off of Hwy 98 in Wake Forest near Falls Lake.  A neighbor discovered the body while on a walk.

Madonna is a former Wake County school teacher.  She worked with special needs children at Garner Magnet High School.  She resigned in March of this year to work for a local law firm.

No motive or cause of death has been released.
