Posted: Updated:

Fire officials were called to Friendship Road in Oconee County for a report of a structure fire Tuesday.

Around 1 p.m., Oconee County 911 Center received several phone calls reporting a house fire.

When they arrived, the fire team found the kitchen of the home in flames and one man injured.

Crews were able to quickly contain the fire and the injured victim was taken to the hospital. He was said to have been treated for minor burns.

Investigators concluded the house fire had been caused by cooking left unattended in the home.

Although the home did have smoke detectors installed, they were found to be inoperable. Fire crews installed new detectors in the home before leaving the scene.

Fire officials encourage all residents that do not have a working smoke detector in their home to contact the Oconee County Emergency Service office to have one placed in the home at no charge.
