Anderson Co. Council Approves Budget Including Fee Hikes

Posted: Updated:

Overnight a marathon council meeting came to an end, and the outcome will have some of you paying higher taxes.

Anderson County Council approved the budget four to three just after midnight Wednesday morning.

Full-time county workers will get a one time $500 dollar raise if they make under $50,000 a year.

Part-timers will get a one time $100 dollar pay hike.

County residents will pay an extra $15 dollars a month for sewer service.

Garbage will cost nearly $5 dollars more per year..

Emergency medical service fees increase. Some residents are worried about paying more fees.

Danny Floyd said, "You want to go out and tax these people, there are people that are barely making it now. you don't believe me get out if your little world and come down and get out here".

Council says the increase in sewer rates is to cover a crumbling sewage system that's more than $30 million dollars in debt.

The budget kicks in July 1st.
