Deputies: Wellford Homeowner Kills Intruder

WELLFORD, SC -

The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office is investigating a deadly shooting in Wellford.

Tuesday night, at 11:34 p.m. Deputies responded to a report of a Home Invasion at 203 Tanglewood Road in the Wellford community. Upon arrival Deputies found a male lying in front of 205 Tanglewood Road.

Deputies say the  man lying in the driveway appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound to the face. Deputies then made contact with the residents of 203 Tanglewood Road who informed them that two male subjects armed with handguns entered their home.

Deputies say the residents said a fight took place between the male resident of the home and one of the suspects. During this fight the suspect dropped his handgun.

Deputies report the second suspect fired one shot at the male resident. The male resident then picked up the handgun dropped by one of the suspects and returned fire.

Deputies say it is not known at this time if there is any prior connection between the suspects and the residents of the home.

Investigators say they assume at this point in the investigation that the motive for this crime was robbery. The were no injuries sustained by either resident of the home.

The man who was killed has been identified as 21-year-old Delano Anthony Turner, of Wellford.

The investigation into this case is ongoing and investigators are trying to identify the second suspect.  If anyone has information about this case they are asked to call CrimeStoppers at 1.888.CRIME.SC.
