Posted: Updated:

A boy at a Gaffney restaurant was pulled from an underground grease pit after falling in Monday.

Authorities say it happened at Bronco's Mexican Restaurant on Floyd Baker Boulevard.

When fire and rescue crews got there, they found a 5-year-old covered in grease and oil complaining of skin and eye irritation.

Officials tell 7 On Your Side the child stepped on a lid covering the outdoor pit falling around 6 feet into 50 inches of liquid.

The parents of the boy had pulled him to safety and stripped his clothes off.  Rescue crews started a decontamination process when they arrived.

The parents tell Gaffney fire officials the child was there one minute and gone the next.  Apparently, he stepped on a lid covering the pit and fell in. ‘

He was taken to Gaffney Medical Center for treatment.
