Damage In Haywood County Determined To Be EF1 Tornado

The National Weather Service says that storms that ripped through Western North Carolina and Georgia have been classified as tornadoes.  Meteorologists surveying damage from the storm on June 13 in the Big Creek area of the Smoky Mountain National Park determined that the storm was an EF1 tornado. Winds were estimated to be around 100 miles an hour.  Investigators say path of destruction was a maximum of 100 yards. This area is located 15 miles from Maggie Valley.

Teams from the National Weather Service also concluded EF1 tornadoes occurred in Cherokee County, Georgia with winds over 100 miles per hour.
