Anderson City Council Considers New Restrictions for Pet Owners

Posted: Updated:

People living in the city of Anderson may soon be limited in how many dogs they can own.

Anderson City Council is discussing a new animal ordinance during Monday's meeting. If passed, the proposal would keep residents from owning more than four dogs.

The only exceptions are for dogs younger than 4-months-old and residents whose property is zone for residential agriculture.

The proposal would also set new rules about how dogs are cared for. It would ban a dog from being tethered outside during inclement weather or for too long a period in any kind of weather. Pet owners would also be required to provide adequate food, water and medical care for their dogs.

Monday's City Council meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at city hall. To see the full agenda, click here.
