Easley Middle School Debate to Continue Next Month

EASLEY, S.C. -

Some Pickens County parents say their local middle school isn't big enough to give students the space they need to learn.

School board members had planned to renovate Gettys Middle School in Easley and add a second middle school to alleviate overcrowding problems. However, the board decided to abandon those plans last month, after budget discussions showed there wasn't enough money available.

Parents expressed their anger about the decision during Monday night's board meeting. However, district officials took no action on the matter.

Instead, they plan to discuss the issue next month. There is a public budget workshop scheduled for July 11 at 6 p.m. It will be held at the district office. Any action they decide to take will be voted on at a called meeting to follow the workshop.
