Skating On The Square Will Return To Downtown Spartanburg

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -

Spartanburg city officials are thinking winter on the first day of July.

The city announced Monday that Skating on the Square will return for a second season on Morgan Square.

More than 14,000 people skated on the ice last fall when the rink was open for seven weeks.

"From providing a healthy outdoor activity during some of our colder months, to adding to the spirit of the holiday season, to increasing economic activity downtown, Skating on the Square checked off every box we hoped it would in its first year," said Mandy Merck, the City of Spartanburg's Special Events & Festivals Manager in a written release.

The cost to skate on the square - including skate rental was $10 in 2012.

Dates for Skating on the Square for 2013 haven't been announced yet.
