Ware Shoals residents elected two new council members on Tuesday during a special election Tuesday.

Rick Curtis received 129 votes for 68 percent of the vote compared to challenger Calvin Culbertson, who received 27 votes. He will replace Sudie Cooper, who resigned earlier this year.

Patty Walters won a tightly contested race to capture the seat vacated by B.J. Smith. Walters received 89 votes to defeat six other challengers, including Steve Griffith, who received 69 votes. Nakisha Leverett received 13 votes.
