Geese Found Burned, Beaten And Poisoned At Greenville Pond

Baby goose found burned with hot grease. Baby goose found burned with hot grease.

There's no other way to describe it, then as torture.

The images are hard to look at, of a gosling that's been badly burned.

Greenville Wildlife Rehab found the bird at Mallard Cove Apartments in Greenville. We obtained a copy of the veterinarian bill that confirms someone burnt the gosling with hot grease.  The baby duck was euthanized.

"You wonder what kind of person is capable of that amount of cruelty," Angel Durham with Izzie's Pond and Greenville Wildlife Rehab said.

The Department of Natural Resources is investigating several cases of animal abuse at this pond. In the span of one month Durham says 2 geese and 4 ducks were found beaten, burned or poisoned.

Durham says 4 baby mallards just about 2 days old were poisoned with antifreeze and later died.

"How could anyone hurt something so adorable," Durham said.

Wildlife officials need your help. If you know anything about the abuse officials want you to come forward.

"How can you sleep at night if you say nothing and you do nothing how can you live with yourself," Durham said.

Durham worries more birds will suffer if no one speaks up.
