Bo Thompson blasted seven home runs over the opening two rounds but fell short of reaching the finals of the TD Ameritrade Home Run Derby held Wednesday night.

The rising junior cleared the fence four times off pitches from Citadel hitting coach Adam Vrable to advance past the first round. He added three more round trippers in the second round but was unable to crack the top two of Rice's Michael Aquino and Matt Gonzalez of Georgia Tech.

Aquino went on to win the derby, edging Gonzalez 6-5 in the championship round.

Thompson, who led the Bulldogs with 14 home runs during the regular season, finished in the top half of the eight-player event. Among those who failed to advance past the first round were Joey Pankake of South Carolina and Garrett Boulware of Clemson.
