Protect Yourself From Repair Rip offs With Tuesday Workshop

A new law in South Carolina protects you from home repair scams.

The National Insurance Crime Bureau says contractors have been going door to door soliciting business, then not completing the work.

Now, if you enter into a contract with a residential roofer, you have the power to cancel it within five days.

Also, contractors now have to do the work before they get paid.  It is illegal for contractors to accept up front payments.

Contracts under the new law are not allowed to handle the insurance claim on your behalf.

A class is being held on Tuesday, July 9th at the Greenville Library on Heritage Green Place from 6:30pm to 8pm.

The National Center for the Prevention of Home Improvement Fraud is having several speakers to outline tips on how to find a contractor, verify their business, and logistics to entering a contract.
