RALEIGH, N.C. -

The State Highway Patrol is asking for the public's help in locating a hit and run vehicle that struck a pedestrian in Wake County.

On Thursday at approximately 10:43 p.m., the State Highway Patrol was dispatched to a serious hit-and-run collision involving a pedestrian and a passenger vehicle on the on-ramp from Smithfield Road leading to the U.S. 64 west by-pass.

A witness told the Highway Patrol that a green-colored older model Honda was traveling directly behind him on the on-ramp when he noticed the Honda passenger vehicle swerve to the right onto the shoulder. The vehicle struck a Hispanic male who was walking west on the shoulder of the on-ramp. The vehicle stopped momentarily but then fled the scene, traveling west on the U.S. 64 by-pass.

The pedestrian was transported to Wake Medical Center where he is listed as being in critical condition.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact the Raleigh State Highway Patrol Communication Center at (919)733-3861 or the Raleigh Troop C District State Highway Patrol office at (919)733-4400.
