Wanted: Two Oconee County Burglars

Posted: Updated:

Oconee County Deputies are on the hunt for what they call bold burglars.  Investigators say Joshua Estes and his brother James Estes drove up to a home on Shallow ford Road in Salem to rob it.

Before the two burglars could leave deputies say the homeowner pulled up, and in an effort to stop the burglars deputies say the homeowner confronted the brothers as they were loading up a brown SUV with stolen items.

Deputies say the thieves jumped into the SUV and tried to run over the homeowner, but investigators say before they got away the homeowner fired his gun hitting the driver.

"When the gentleman tried to run him over, and he felt his life was in danger a couple of individuals I spoke with in the sheriff's office say he was well within his rights to protect himself at that point," Jimmy Watts with the Oconee County Sheriff's Office said.

The SUV was later found abandoned in Pickens County with several of the stolen items still inside. Now deputies need your help to find the Estes brothers.

They are from Henderson County, NC.  Any information reported to CrimeStoppers that leads to an arrest is eligible for a cash reward.
