Katy Funk qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship which will be held August 5-11 at the Country Club of Charleston. Funk is an incoming freshman on the Wofford women's golf team.

Funk, a native of Spartanburg, S.C., finished tied for first in the qualifier at the Dalton Golf and Country Club in Dalton, Georgia. She shot a 70 as one of nine to qualify for the championship.

Last season as a senior at Spartanburg High School Funk was named the Herald-Journal Girls Golfer of the Year.

Funk joins fellow Wofford golfer Anne Marie Covar in the field. Covar shot a 73 in the qualifier at the Cougar Point Golf Course at Kiawah Island on July 1.

The championship is open to any female amateur golfer with a USGA Handicap Index® not exceeding 5.4. The USGA accepted a record 1,170 entries for the 2013 U.S. Women's Amateur, surpassing the 1,123 entries the USGA accepted for the 2012 championship. The Women's Amateur has exceeded 1,000 entries for the past four championships, including 2013.

Sectional qualifying, played over 18 holes, will be conducted at 18 sites between July 1-16. The Country Club of Charleston will be set up at 6,488 yards and will play to a par of 36-35—71. Tee times will be announced in early August.
