You Can Help Prevent Your Home From Flooding

Posted: Updated:

July storms have caused major damage, including flooding in homes that have never seen it before.

While some low-lying homes near rivers and lakes can't avoid flooding, others can take steps to prevent it.

Contractors encourage every home to purchase a sump pump. If you have one, make sure you have a generator to keep it running incase the power goes out.

Also, before a large rainstorm, make sure your gutters are cleaned out.

Make sure the water from your downspouts carries away from your foundation. Also, keep the dirt around your foundation higher than your yard.

If you are prone to flooding, place sandbags in the lowest part of your home.

The Turner Agency Insurance encourages everyone to at least find get a quote on flood insurance for your home or business, even if you think you don't need it.
