Two Hunting Island Drowning Victims From Chesnee Identified - July 15, 2013

Beaufort County authorities have identified 2 bodies and are looking for another missing person in the water off Hunting Island.

The coroner confirms the two victims are from Chesnee.

Sixteen-year-old Nathan Mok of Chesnee, SC was found just after 6 pm Sunday near the shore. The body of his father, 38-year old Tiem Mok, was discovered just after 10 am Monday, washed ashore nearly three miles away from where he was last seen.

At the Mok home in Chesnee, family members gathered Monday night. They said the family enjoyed taking camping trips to the coast.

Family member Kim Pal said the deaths have been extremely hard on Mok's wife and his young daughter and other son.

"He's like everybody has a dad and my dad is gone. No more kisses every night before bed," Pal said.

Nathan was going into his junior year at Boiling Springs High School. Pal said he was a quiet, but good student and he took care of his younger siblings.

The Moks own two nail salons in Spartanburg County.

"Tiem is a person who would do anything for anybody even if he's just met you," Pal said.

A third family member, a 17-year old male visiting from Philadelphia remains missing.

Pal said that he loved visiting the coast and hoped to move to South Carolina. His mother is now with the family in Chesnee hoping that he can be found.

His name has not been officially released.

Deputies say a 14-year-old girl became separated from the group and swam ashore and called for help.

Glenn White of Gaffney says the group had been using a boogie board when they were swept out to sea. White said he and others waded into neck deep water, but were unable to get to the group.

Family members tell 7 On Your Side funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Living Waters Funeral Home in Lyman.
