Spartanburg, SC -

A coach at Blue Ridge High School has been placed on leave after being arrested in the city of Spartanburg Monday morning.

A spokesperson for the Greenville County School District said in a prepared statement that Travis Bruce Henson, 38, of Greer, has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into criminal charges. Henson, who serves as a social studies teacher, head baseball coach and assistant football coach at Blue Ridge High, was arrested Monday morning at the Dorman Centre Walmart in Spartanburg and charged with shoplifting.

According to an incident report obtained from Spartanburg Public Safety, Henson was arrested just before 10:30 a.m. after he selected two baseball bats and a baseball glove from the sporting goods section of the store and concealed them in Walmart bags. He then left the store without paying, the report states.

Before being confronted by the store's loss prevention officer, Henson returned to the store a few minutes later and placed the items where they originally were. He was then placed under arrest by a Spartanburg Public Safety officer and evidence from the store was taking into custody.

He was released from the Spartanburg County Detention Center a hour later on $1,000 bond.

Dozens of drivers have filed complaints with the South Carolina Department of Transportation over loose gravel along a stretch of I-85. Officials said the complaints, which topped out at between 6 and 8 per day last week, stem from gravel that's damaged vehicles between Highway 14 and 129, where crews are working on a two-year-long resurfacing project.
