OCONEE COUNTY, S.C. -

A woman from Oconee County who was reported missing for more than three weeks has been found safe

According to sheriff's office spokesman Jimmy Watt, Rudi Samya Murphy, 44, called authorities Tuesday night and said she was safe and well in Oconee County.

Earlier Tuesday, Watt stated that Murphy had been reported missing by her daughter on Monday. She says her mother was evicted and had been living wherever she could find a place to stay.

Murphy's daughter told investigators that she got a phone call from her mother's cell phone number, but the person on the other end said they found the phone near a tent by a lake. The person said they would leave the phone by the tent, but the daughter didn't think to ask where the tent was located.

Muphy's parole officer says she had not talked with her since May.

Dozens of drivers have filed complaints with the South Carolina Department of Transportation over loose gravel along a stretch of I-85. Officials said the complaints, which topped out at between 6 and 8 per day last week, stem from gravel that's damaged vehicles between Highway 14 and 129, where crews are working on a two-year-long resurfacing project.
