Riverbanks Zoo and Garden in Columbia hit record attendance numbers again this year. The zoo saw 1,039,372 guests during the 2012-2013 fiscal year that ended in June. That's more than 50,000 over their expected attendance. It's the fourth consecutive year that Riverbanks has seen more than one million visitors.

Satch Krantz, the president and CEO of Riverbanks Zoo and Garden, credits the success to the Zoos ever-changing attractions.

Riverbanks is the largest gated attraction in South Carolina and ranks as one of the largest mid-sized zoos in the country.

Riverbanks is now in the process of planning a $32 million expansion that will greatly change the landscape of the park over the next few years. The Zoo is also currently constructing its newest attraction—a zip line canopy tour—scheduled to open later this summer.
