Hospital Systems Terminate Partnership Plans

Posted: Updated:
ASHEVILLE, N.C. -

Rutherford Regional Health System and Mission Health System announced Friday they have mutually agreed to terminate the non-binding memorandum of understanding that would have created a potential partnership between the two western North Carolina health systems.

In a statement from RRHS, both health systems entered into the memorandum of understanding in January of this year and began a negotiation process to include RRHS as a full member hospital of Mission.

The statement did not give a specific reason for terminating partnership plans, but President & CEO of Mission Health Ronald Paulus, MD says Mission remains committed to "supporting the Rutherford community regardless of this outcome, we respect and appreciate RRHS s view that there are other potential partners who may create more value, and we wish them great success."

The chairman of the RRHS Board of Trustees Terry Hines says, "As we open discussions regarding potential partnership with other highly respected health systems, we are confident that our patients will continue to receive exceptional quality care and services from RRHS  dedicated employees and medical staff."
