Greer Churches Burglarized, Police Search For Person Of Interest - July 19, 2013

It's a crime spree that targets local churches. Now police need your help to find the man, who may have information on at least 5 church break-ins.

The burglaries happened between July 17th and 19th. Police say the crook used several different ways to get into the building, including kicking in front or side doors, forcing open weak or unlocked door and busting through windows.

Police say the crook stole cash and donations, then ran off.

Minister Carlos Hugues noticed the back door ripped in half at the Geer Church of Christ Friday morning.

He reviewed security tape and noticed two people go into his office and then through the rest of the church. He wishes the burglars asked for help instead of trying to take advantage.

"We can help them but they don't need to cause that kind of damage to the house of Christ," Hugeus said.

Church workers began repairs Friday.

The other churches affected include Victor United Methodist Church, Lord of Glory Church, Calvary Baptist Church and Hillcrest church.

Some places lost as much as $120 in donations, other as little as $15 in cash with some coins as well.

The damages to doors and windows will cost the churches much more than what was taken.

"Churches try to do much for the community, these are community churches and to have them broke into and vandalized is sad," Lt. Jim Holcombe, with the Greer Police, said.

If you know anything about these crimes, or can help police find their person of interest, please call the Greer Police Department at 864.877.7906.
