Brenda Kay Hurl, 42, of Anderson County is dead today, after being shot in the head late Friday night. According to an Anderson County Sheriff’s report, Hurl was found dead inside of her home on Dellwood Lane in Iva after sustaining a gunshot wound to the head.

The report stated that shortly after 9 PM Friday, “sheriff’s deputies responded to an active shooter call”. Once authorities arrived on the scene, deputies found an exhausted child on a road near the house. The child informed police that the shooter was still inside the home on Dellwood at the time.

Deputies began to approach the Dellwood home, where they arrested Robert John Hurl, 44, outside carrying an AR-15, husband of the victim, Brenda Kay. According to the Sheriff’s office, Brenda Kay was pronounced dead on the scene by Coroner, Greg Shore.

In addition to the child found on the road, there was another child found in a rear bedroom of the residence with an adult woman. Reports state that Robert allegedly pursued the woman and male adult, identified as James Jody Jones striking Jones in an unlisted area. The female, was not harmed.

Sheriff’s records indicate that Brenda Kay obtained a protection order against the suspect in the past after Robert was charged with domestic violence. Brenda Kay went on to file for a divorce last January, however, the pending divorce was later dropped.

Brenda Kay and her child were reported to have been visiting the home where Robert, father of the child, was staying as a guest, when the disruption occurred Friday night.

The child is currently in the custody of family members.

Robert is currently being held in the Anderson County Jail on five charges including; two counts of attempted murder, one count of murder and one count of possession of a fire arm during the commission of a violent crime.

Robert's bond was denied Saturday evening after going before an Anderson County Circuit Court Judge according to an Anderson County Jail officer.
