The Spartanburg Summer Swim League Championship took place Saturday.

Swimmers competed at the Middle Tyger YMCA in Duncan.

According to our news partners, the Spartanburg Herald Journal, the league started in 1974. The Herald Journal reports the event is named in honor of Ed Miller, who died two years ago. He and his wife coached together for 10 years.

Hundreds of swimmers participate each summer, said Pete Wright of the Middle Tyger YMCA.

"The Spartanburg meet is what it's all about. It's about community, kids with their parents, families and friends, a lot of smiles, incredible energy, incredible cheering all day," Miller said. "It's a lot of fun."
