Bed Bug Infestation At Spartanburg Apartment Building

Posted: Updated:

Spartanburg Housing Authority tells us there is a bug infestation inside one of its apartment buildings.

James Mills is spending his nights sleeping in an apartment infested with bed bugs.

"I can feel them biting me," Mills said.

And he's not alone Spartanburg Housing Authority tells us at least 9 units inside Archibald Rutledge Apartments are infested. Mills and his neighbors say exterminating the pests isn't happening fast enough.

"There in the mattresses, the walls the light sockets and all that and I'm saying to myself when is this situation going to be handled," Mills said.

Spartanburg Housing Authority Director Daryl Dalton tells us an exterminator is scheduled to come out to the apartments by the end of the week.

"I understand we are empathetic for those individuals help is on the way its a difficult situation and we appreciate their patience," Dalton said.

Dalton says the housing authority is covering the cost of the exterminator.

But in the meantime he's asking people to be careful about what furniture they bring inside.

Advice that's important for anyone because if you get furniture off the sidewalk that's infested with bed bugs they will quickly multiply inside your home.

"If we know its infested we're literally taking a can of orange spray paint and painting bed bugs on it when we set it outside so somebody else doesn't bring it inside," Dalton said.

Mills just hopes the problem is solved, before these pesky bugs attack anymore apartments.

"We've got people in this building that's 97 and 98 years old," Mills said.

People Mills says shouldn't have to worry about what's lurking in their bed at night.
