Daughter, dying dad share wedding dance - and she's single

Posted: Updated:
AUBURN, Calif. -

It was the perfect wedding, complete with the dress, veil, makeup and an outside gazebo.

The only thing missing was a groom.

But that didn't matter, because this wedding was about a father – dying, with only months to live. It's about a daughter, who wanted to make sure that father-daughter wedding dance happened.

To say 25-year old Rachel Wolf has a vivid imagination would be an understatement. To say that desperate times calls for desperate measures, that sums up this story best.

Rachel's dad, Dr. James Wolf, is losing his battle with pancreatic cancer and is most afraid of what he'll miss out on.

"I'm saddened over the fact that I won't be there for the events of her life," he said. "That's been difficult on me."

Even though she isn't engaged, Rachel has a special invitation. In less than 10 days, the folks in Auburn, Calif., helped pull off a pretend wedding.

"I almost just want to run to him with open arms…screaming daddy," Rachel says.

Friends, family, strangers – even patients of the once named "Doctor of the Year" were waiting.

"I've been waiting for this moment," Wolf said to his daughter. "I can't tell you how long I've been waiting for this moment."

For her father, it was a day he did not want to miss. He is not on chemotherapy. His doctors say he only has another three months, if he's lucky.

That said, James is not afraid of dying.

He said he won't miss his girls, because he'll always be there.
