Congressman Tours Rain-Ravaged Farmlands in WNC

Posted: Updated:

North Carolina Rep. Mark Meadows made a visit to rain-soaked farmlands Friday, to see the effects of persistent rains on crops in Henderson County.

The tour was arranged in part by Mark Williams, executive director of Agribusiness Henderson County. Williams said corn and vegetable crops, tree nurseries, sod and hay fields, apple orchards, berry patches and cattle ranchers have all taken a hit.

Williams said anyone farming in the areas near rivers or flat ground has suffered significant damage, and in many cases, their crops were destroyed altogether.

Jason Davis of North River Farms in Mills River says many of the area's older farmers say they never seen anything like it in their lives.
