ABBEVILLE COUNTY, S.C. -

"BUCKLE UP!” are two words that many people are thinking about in Abbeville, as a result of festivities and a fundraiser held in the memory of 26 year-old, BJ Garner, who died this past February, possibly, because he failed to do so.

“It is important to show the safety and push that across to the public in reference to how important a seatbelt is in a crash, to have it on” said State Trooper, Tony Keller, “we go around and educate people”.

Hundreds of family, friends, supporters and patrons, celebrated BJ’s legacy Saturday, by hosting a silent auction, car and bike show and spreading the message, to buckle up. “It touches my heart deeply. He [BJ] has not been goon but a little less than six months now and I am just now getting to where I can deal daily and try and put a smile on” said Lori Garner, BJ’s mother before discovering that the event raised more than  7,000 dollars.

BJ’s fiancé of nearly seven years reminded people to "BUCKLE UP!" throughout the day, saying “Losing BJ, I don’t want anyone else to have to go through that pain”. As a result of the money that was collected, BJ’s family intends to build a playground in Donalds, in honor of BJ’s love for kids.
