A nonprofit started by Gov. Nikki Haley is asking residents to donate books for children in rural counties it serves.

The Original Six Foundation is organizing a statewide book drive from Aug. 5 through Aug. 17.

A news conference to announce the details is being held Monday morning at the Richland County Library in Eastover. Haley, her nonprofit's board of directors, and officials from AT&T and the state Department of Motor Vehicles will attend.

They are asking people to donate new or gently used children's and South Carolina history books. Collection boxes will be placed in all 67 DMVs across the state.

The books will be donated to libraries, schools, and after-school programs in seven rural counties. They are Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Clarendon, Marion, Marlboro and Union counties.
