Cherokee County, S.C. -

Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler says a 26 year old Gaffney man injured in a moped collision Monday afternoon has died.  Fowler said Jonathan Ross Peterson of 269 Triangle Road died at 7:35 p.m. Tuesday in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center’s intensive care unit.

Fowler said Peterson was driver and lone occupant of a 2009 Taiz moped that was headed south on Green River road 4.4  miles south of Gaffney about 5 p.m. Monday.  “Mr. Peterson failed to negotiate a curve and ran off the right side of the roadway across a ditch and struck a culvert. He was not wearing a helmet and was ejected on impact, Fowler said.”

Fowler said the victim suffered head trauma.  An autopsy will be performed in Newberry to assist with the coroner’s investigation that is also being probed by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
