Downtown Spartanburg Ferris Wheel Wraps Up The Fun - August 26, 2013

A 90-foot ferris wheel has wrapped up a 12-day run in Spartanburg, carrying more than 5,000 riders into the sky.

The Wheel of Lights and Inspiration, or WOLI was set up in Morgan Square downtown on August 14.  It took the final riders around Sunday night. 

Leaders said it's a way to bring festival spirit to Spartanburg as summer winds down.

According to city spokesman Will Rothschild, the winners of the WOLI photo contest will be announced Monday or Tuesday.

Photo Contest Announced For Downtown Spartanburg Ferris Wheel - August 16, 2013

A 90-foot ferris wheel has been set up in downtown Spartanburg.

According to the city’s website, thanks to a private donor the attraction named WOLI (Wheel of Lights and Inspirations) will be operating in Morgan Square for 12 days.

The ferris wheel spends most of its time at large outdoor festivals across the country. It was recently seen at Bonnaroo Music Festival.

The city has announced a photo contest centered around the attraction.

A news release from leaders at city hall states that three of the best photos will be selected on Monday, August 26.  The winners will be awarded prizes, which are yet to be announced.
