APEX, N.C. -

Apex has been named one of the best small towns to live in, according to Money Magazine.

The magazine ranked the "Peak of good living" town ninth in the list.

Residents who live in Apex enjoy a variety of shopping and socializing on Salem Street in downtown, from Peak City Fest to other festivals.

"The Money Magazine ranking for Apex as one of the elite communities in the country brings credit to our citizens who exhibit daily the spirit and engagement that it takes to make a community great," commented Mayor Keith Weatherly in a written release. "The Town Council and staff work hard with our residents to maintain the quality of life that Apex is famous for."

According to Money Magazine, Apex has a range of affordable homes with a median home price of $225,000. Residential building permits have increased 60 percent in the first quarter of 2013. The town has a population of 40,205.

The magazine started with 1,326 towns nationwide in the small town category, then screened out communities based on financial, demographic, crime, employment, real estate, education, health care, and quality of life. Highest weight was given to economic and housing factors.
