Deputies Search For Killer After Body Found Near Swamp Rabbit Trail

Deputies say a body was found at a trail crossing on the Swamp Rabbit Trail Monday. The coroner's office says Robin Banta, 60, died from a gunshot wound to the chest in July. GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. -

Deputies say a body was found at a trail crossing on the Swamp Rabbit Trail in Greenville County Monday.

The Greenville County Coroner's Office says Robin Brent Banta, 60, died from a gunshot wound to the chest in July.

Authorities were called to the location in a wooded area along Highway 253 around 9:30 a.m. Monday after the body was discovered.

Investigators tell us Banta lived in a makeshift camp nearby.  They think he lived there for approximately one year.

On Tuesday, the coroner's office ruled the death a homicide.  Officials originally said no foul play was suspected.

The investigation continues.
