RALEIGH, N.C. -

The National Security Agency is partnering up with North Carolina State University to create a new Laboratory for Analytic Sciences.

The NSA grant funding of the LAS is the largest sponsored research contract in the university's history.

The facility will bring 100 new jobs to the Triangle over the next several years, attracting new government and industry partners.

"N.C. State is committed to developing partnerships that solve the grand challenges facing society and promote innovative products and solutions that improve lives around the globe," Chancellor Randy Woodson said in a written release. "We appreciate the confidence of the National Security Agency to select N.C. State for this groundbreaking endeavor," Woodson added.

The NSA chose N.C. State for this partnership due in large part to the university's national leadership and expertise in data analysis along with its strong existing partnerships with industry, universities and government agencies.

Researchers at N.C. State will help NSA scientists in establishing priorities and conducting research for the LAS. A key goal of the LAS is to promote new advances in the science of analysis through innovative collaborations between industry, academia and government.
