WILLIAMSTON, S.C. -

A Williamston man was airlifted to the hospital Thursday with severe burns to his legs.

Williamston Fire Chief Steve Ellison says the man, who is on oxygen and has a heart problem, was working on a lawnmower behind a house. Ellison told 7 On Your Side the man poured gas on the carburetor and it caught fire. The fire spread to his pants.

Ellison says the man suffered severe burns to his lower extremities. He was airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital.
