A gun safety demonstration is taking place in Greenville today, and police hope this will help save lives.

The workshop is put on by Project ChildSafe.  The Greenville Sheriff's Office, Greenville Police Department, and a member of the USA shooting team will be giving demonstrations.

Senator Lindsey Graham will also be speaking at the event.

It's being held at the Sharpshooters Gun Club and Range at 1345 Rutherford Road in Greenville at 11 a.m.  It's free and open to the public.

Gun locks and gun safety kits will be passed out at the event.

Greenville Police say a gun lock can absolutely save lives.

"It's for parents to educate children. Parents are the ones owning the guns, so they need to take responsibility and make sure their guns are safe," said Greenville Police Officer Johnathan Bragg. Since 1998, Project Childsafe has given out more than 100 million gun locks have been given out for free.
