SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. -

Upstate children are heading back to school this week.

Spartanburg, Union,  and  Anderson County students all start on Monday. Cherokee, Greenwood, Oconee and Pickens Counties return back to the classroom Tuesday. Greenville County students start on Wednesday.

Many schools have added security changes.  This year all Spartanburg County schools will have full time School Resource Officers.  Many schools have added additional video surveillance and new buzzer systems.  If you go to visit the schools, many districts require a photo ID before being allowed in.

Anderson Police and the Anderson County Sheriff's office is working with District 5 schools in Anderson as well.

Highway Patrol also wants to remind drivers to watch for buses. If you are behind a school bus, you must always stop when they do.

If you are in the opposite lane as a bus on a two lane road and it stops, you need to stop as well.

If you are on a private road or four lanes or wider highway, you do not need to stop when buses do.  Highway Patrol does urge you to be cautious when buses are stopping no matter what.

Authorities also remind motorists to take caution while approaching and passing through school zones.

Officials in Greenville County say they will be aggressively patrolling school zones as students return.

The Traffic Unit will be on the lookout for speeders and other other traffic violation that could endanger the safety of children.
