Shots Fired On Swamp Rabbit Trail

Posted: Updated:

Greenville County deputies say they received a call of shots fired on the Swamp Rabbit Trail off of West Blue Ridge Drive at 8:15 pm Tuesday night.

Deputies say when they arrived they said the two men that called told them they were riding a bike along the trail 300 - 400 yards north of the intersection of West Blue Ridge Drive, when they said they heard several shots coming from the north side of the trail and hit a raised berm on the south side of the trail.

The two men told deputies they waited about five minutes before deciding it was safe for them to leave the area and called the Sheriff's Office.

Deputies say the only injury reported was to one man's wrist caused from running into the back of his friend's bicycle after he stopped when he heard the gunfire.

The Sheriff's Office says they are treating this as an attempted murder case.

They say investigators and K-9 units were in the area looking for evidence and say it's unclear if these two were being shot at or if it was a reckless discharge of a firearm.

Investigators ask if you have any information on what happened, to call Crime Stoppers at 23-CRIME.

There have been three incidents on the Swamp Rabbit Trail in the last month.

Most of this trail falls under the watchful eye of the Greenville County Sheriff's Office. They have two deputies assigned to patrol on motorcycle or bike.

They tell 7 On Your Side, since January three reports have been filed along the trail - all for lost or found property.
