SIMPSONVILLE, S.C. -

The heavy rains over the last several months have delayed several construction projects in the Upstate.

Students going back to school this week saw crews still working on repairs which were scheduled to be done by summer's end.

Roofing projects at Plain, Bethel and Slater-Marietta elementary schools in Greenville County are running late because of the wet weather.

Anna Hobson began third grade by looking out the window and seeing something she saw enough of during summer vacation.

"I watched the rain pour down," she said.

Her mother wasn't at all surprised to see summer construction workers still on the job.

"I am impressed that they've gotten this far with the way the weather has been," Hobson said.

Plain principal Debbie Mihalic says students won't be disrupted by the ongoing $1 million roof repair project.

"We had a few ceiling tiles, a few leaks. we cleaned it up," Mihalic said.

Some parents in Spartanburg County were also disappointed with ongoing work at Chesnee High and Middle.

School officials say it's a major addition and won't be done for a while. They insist the roads for student drop off is safe.
