Spartanburg Bank Evacuated Tuesday After Powder Found Inside - August 27, 2013

Authorities evacuated a Spartanburg bank Tuesday afternoon after fire officials say a powdery substance was found inside a letter.

Firefighters and HazMat crews were called to the TD Bank on at 340 East Main Street around 4:30 pm. The white powdery substance was later deemed safe after it was determined it was boric acid, a household chemical that poses no risk.

East Main Street was closed between Oakland and Alabama streets for a short time. Traffic in the area was re-opened.

People inside the building at the time of the discovery were checked out and allowed to leave. The building was re-opened after the powder was tested.
