(WCBD-TV) - There's been another fatal wreck on a deadly stretch of Interstate 26 between Summerville and I-95.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol says a 21-year-old Summerville woman died late Wednesday when her car ran into some trees beside the road.

The victim was Rachel McBryde Kam-Johnson, who was a Clemson graduate and had also graduated from Bishop-England High School.

The SC Highway Patrol reports the wreck happened just after 5 pm near exit 182 when she went off the right side of the road, over corrected and hit trees on the other side.

She was not wearing a seatbelt.

The state Transportation Department wants to spend $5 million to cut trees in the median along 30 miles of the interstate and put up a cable guardrail.

But state lawmakers said the trees could not be removed without approval of the Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments. The council is looking into other options after objections from lawmakers and others to the plan.

Between 2007 and 2011, 44 people were killed and more than 700 were hurt in almost 2,000 crashes along the stretch of interstate.
